DIAMOND FOX CERAMIC COATING

Executive-Level Polish
and 5-Year Ceramic Coating

SB3 Coatings are among the latest in vehicle protection technology. They engineer their formula on the molecular level to have industry-leading hardness, durability and gloss.

While off-the-shelf formulas may call themselves “ceramic” because they have some silica (SiO2) content, SB3’s Coatings are engineered to be primarily silica. This keeps their coatings protecting your car for years to come. And in the Pacific Northwest, a wax will last you a few weeks – tops. Whereas a ceramic coating will last you a few years.

When there’s dirt on your car’s paint, the dirt attracts more dirt, which embeds itself into your paint. As a result, it erodes away your clear coat. SB3 Ceramic Coating’s hydrophobic properties shield your clear coat from these contaminants with their self-cleaning properties.

frequently asked questions

Ceramic paint coating acts like a shield over your car’s clear coat. I consider them long-term fancy waxes that keep your car looking new by preventing oxidation, and clogging the pores of the paint surface. The ceramic coating prevents heavy contamination build-up that would happen on a non-coated surface. When a vehicle becomes heavily contaminated, the surface becomes rough and cloudy. And so new dirt easily sticks to that contamination.

A coated car stays looking clean longer and eliminates the need to keep waxing and polishing your car.

A ceramic coating in the Northwest will generally last about 70% of the duration it is rated for. With a 5-year coating on a daily driver, you will realistically see about three years durability and up about 60,000 miles. If this is on a vehicle that is not a daily driver and garage-kept you may see much longer than what your coating is rated for. Failure to keep up on your car washes every two or three weeks can lead to premature degradation of your coating.

In the Northwest, a wax will last a couple of weeks tops. Often these waxes are made from natural carnauba and turned into pastes. Therefore, the protection doesn’t hold a candle to the chemical bond made from silica-dioxide. These ceramic formulas create years of durability, hardness, and UV protection.

Absolutely! If you’ve spent a lot of money on a nice new vehicle, a coating is a cheaper alternative to paint protection film (ppf). These will not prevent deep scratches or dents, but can help reduce micro-marring from hand washing, prevent etches from bird droppings. As a result, cleaning becomes very easy and saves you a lot of money on future exterior maintenance detailing. Ceramic Coating is a larger cost up front, but over time it will be costing you a little over $1.00/ day. However, if you are planning to use an automatic brush car wash this may not be the best investment as these brushes will abrade and cause damage to the coating.

The best way to care for your coated car is to keep up your hand washes every two to three weeks with a Ph-balanced soap. Studies show that any new dirt on a painted surface will start embedding itself into it. In this case the dirt would embed itself into the coating, but on a smaller scale. Keeping the coating clean will keep it hydrophobic so it can continue repelling dirt with it’s self-cleaning properties.

No. These are designed to add gloss, make cleaning easy, and keep your car looking new longer. For that reason, a coating can help prevent micro scratches from hand-washing but cannot prevent deep scratches or damage from tunnel washing.

Companies keep finding ways to gain revenue by using the word “ceramic”. The slightest amount of silica content in a spray can be labeled a “ceramic coating”. The professional grade coatings I use contain very high silica content. In fact, If you were to pour our coating into a glass, the liquid would turn into a clear crystal rock.

If you want to pay 3x the price and have it done by an inexperienced detailer, sure! Otherwise, come to Diamond Fox, save some money, and have a higher quality result that I stand behind.
