Have you ever been out on a blind date to find out that the person you thought you were meeting, wasn’t such at all? Welcome to the world of paint.
Putting a polisher on a vehicle without knowing what you’re working with is like playing roulette. Factory clear coat is coming out thinner than ever and you only have so much to work with. Whenever a vehicle is machine polised it its purpose is to somewhat level the paintwork either to remove defects or remove oxidation. During this process micro layers of the clear coat is removed.
Is it a good idea to polish a vehicle with very thin clear coat? Yes and no depending. There are different levels of polishing work and a gloss enhancement polish level might be ok as this is not removing much clear and can still restore a certain level of gloss.
One risk of leveling a thin clear coat is pushing the car jnto premature clear coat failure which results in the paint actually beginning to bubble and peel in places. Does your detailer take measurements of the paint?
